Description

This beautiful lake is located 70 km from Almaty and among a dense forest at an altitude of 1800 meters in the Issyk Gorge of Alatau.
Issyk Lake is already 10,000 years old. The origin of the lake is associated with a mountain landslide that created a natural dam with a height of 300 m.

Travelers from all over the world come to admire the turquoise waters of the lake and the grandeur of Issyk Gorge. On the coast, you can have a picnic or go hiking to the steep cliffs “Kremlin wall”, which surrounded the lake.

The lake is popular among lovers of historical places, as the archaeological complex of the Issyk burial ground is located nearby.

The world-famous "Golden Man", a warrior dressed in gilded armor, was found here during archaeological excavations on the banks of the Issyk River. This find is a national treasure and a symbol of the Kazakhstan coat of arms, it dates back to the 5th-6th centuries. BC.

Also near the lake is an ostrich farm, where you can taste dishes made from ostrich eggs and take colorful pictures among the exotic landscapes of the region.

Here in the foothills of the Zailiysky Ala Tau there is the Issyk winery founded in 1932, which today is one of the oldest wine producers in Kazakhstan. Due to the unique soil-climatic conditions of this region, rare grape varieties are grown here, on the basis of which experienced winemakers produce excellent dry, semi-dry and semi-sweet wines.
